Natural gas seeps through the sandstone here and has been alight for as long as anyone has kept records. Marco Polo wrote home about the fires of this coast. Most of his readers did not believe him.

It is not a large thing to look at, which is part of why it lands. A low ridge, a wall of flame a few metres across, burning steadily in the open air with nothing feeding it that you can see. Go after dark. In daylight the flame is thin and you will wonder what the fuss is.
